How to Use the Superpower Generator

- Pick a power type, from elemental and mind powers to weird and funny.
- Keep Add a weakness ticked to balance every power.
- Press Generate superpowers to roll new powers.
- Read your power and its weakness. Copy it or star it to keep it.
Choose a power type or keep Any type, then press Generate superpowers. The top result is your main power, with a short description of what it does. Leave Add a weakness ticked to give every power a limit, and tick Combo to give each hero two powers at once.
Click any result to copy the power name, tap the star to save it, or use Copy all for the whole list. Favorites stay in this browser, so you can collect a team of heroes and villains and come back to them later.

The weird and funny powers are small, oddly specific gifts, perfect for comedy and icebreakers.
How Many Results Are Possible?
combos = powers × (powers − 1) ÷ 2 × weaknesses
Worked example: with all 90 powers and 24 weaknesses there are 90 × 24 = 2,160 power and weakness pairs. Two-power combos give 90 × 89 ÷ 2 = 4,005 pairs of powers, or 96,120 once a weakness is added. Every pick uses your browser's secure random source, and a list never repeats a power.
Why Every Power Needs a Weakness
A hero who can do anything has nothing to struggle against, and struggle is what makes a story. A weakness creates choices: a time rewind that costs a memory each time forces your hero to decide what is worth undoing. Good weaknesses come in three kinds: a trigger that switches the power off (it fails when you are wet), a cost that hurts to pay (it leaves you starving), and a limit on range or time (it only reaches 10 meters). Mix one of each across a team so everyone has a moment to shine and a moment to need help.
Ways to Use a Random Superpower
- Writing and comics: build a hero or villain around the power, then ask what kind of person it would create.
- Tabletop and role-playing games: roll powers for a campaign and let the weaknesses drive the drama.
- Classrooms and icebreakers: ask everyone what they would do with the funny power they rolled.
- Costume and party ideas: design a costume that shows off your power and hints at your weakness.
All powers and descriptions are original and generic, so you can use them freely in your own stories and games.
Building a Character Around a Power
Start with the power, then ask how it would shape a life. Someone who can hear thoughts might become a gifted therapist or a lonely recluse. Someone with perfect recall might never forgive a single insult. The weakness adds the second half of the character: a hero whose power fails when they are scared has to learn courage before the power can help.
Next, decide how the world reacts. Is the power secret, famous or illegal? Who wants to use it, and who fears it? Finally, give the hero one thing the power cannot fix, such as a broken friendship or a problem that needs patience rather than strength. That gap is where the most memorable stories live.
Frequently asked questions
How does the superpower generator work?
It picks a random power from the list using your browser's secure random source, shows what the power does, and adds a random weakness if that box is ticked. Combo mode gives two different powers.
What is the best superpower?
There is no single best power. Time stop, teleportation and healing are popular picks, but the most interesting powers for stories are the ones whose weakness forces hard choices.
Why add a weakness to a superpower?
A weakness creates conflict and choices. It stops a hero from solving every problem instantly and gives other characters a reason to help, which makes stories and games more interesting.
Can I get funny superpowers?
Yes. Choose Weird and funny for small, oddly specific powers such as perfect parking, spoon-only telekinesis or always knowing what is inside a wrapped gift.
Can I use these powers in my own comic or game?
Yes. The powers, descriptions and weaknesses are original and generic, so you can use them freely in stories, comics, tabletop campaigns, video game designs, school projects and classroom activities without asking permission.
What does combo mode do?
Combo mode gives each result two different powers, such as Flight plus Telepathy. It is great for designing more powerful characters or seeing how two abilities could work together.
