How to Use the God Name Generator

- Choose goddess, god, neutral or any deity.
- Pick a domain such as sea, war, fate or dreams.
- Choose how the name sounds: lyrical, mighty or mystic.
- Read the deity's name, title and sacred symbol, then save it to your pantheon.
Choose Goddess, God, Neutral or Any, then pick a domain, the part of the world your deity rules, such as the sea, the forge or dreams. Choose how the name should sound: lyrical names flow, mighty names hit hard, and mystic names feel ancient and strange. Press Generate for a list of deities.
Each result gives a name with a divine title, such as Ilara, Goddess of the Tides, or an epithet, such as Korgar the Unbroken. Tick the symbol box to add a sacred symbol you can use on temple banners, holy books or a cleric's amulet. Click a name to copy it, or tap the star to save it while you build your pantheon.
How the Names Are Made
Every name is invented. It joins a starting syllable with an ending that suits the deity: endings like -lara and -thea for goddesses, -rion and -thos for gods, and -wyn and -eth for neutral deities. Each sound style has its own 20 starts and 15 endings for each form. The title comes from the domain, for example Lord of the Forge or Keeper of Secrets.
A lyrical goddess of sky and storms has 20 × 15 × (4 × 6 + 5) = 8,700 possible names. Across all 14 domains, three sounds and three forms, the generator can create 1,096,200 deity names.
Domains and Symbols
| Domain | Example title | Example symbol |
|---|---|---|
| Sky and storms | Lord of Thunder | A silver hawk |
| Sea | Goddess of the Tides | A coiled shell |
| Sun and light | Queen of Dawn | A golden disc |
| Death and the underworld | Keeper of the Last Gate | A black lantern |
| Fire and the forge | Father of the Forge | An anvil |
| Time and fate | Spirit of Prophecy | A spindle |
| Dreams and sleep | Lady of Visions | A poppy |
The other domains are moon and night, earth and harvest, war and courage, love and beauty, wisdom and knowledge, trickery and luck, and nature and the hunt. Together they cover the roles found in most invented pantheons.
How to Build a Pantheon
- Start with what your world needs. A seafaring culture needs a sea god first, a farming culture a harvest goddess. Pick domains that shape daily life.
- Give each culture one sound. Use Mighty for a northern mountain people and Lyrical for an elegant southern empire. Shared sounds make a pantheon feel like it grew from one language.
- Add rivalries. Pair opposites such as sun and moon or war and love, and decide whether they are siblings, lovers or enemies.
- Use the symbol everywhere. A symbol on a coin, a shield or a tavern sign tells players which god a place honors without a word of explanation.
- Let titles vary by region. One goddess can be Lady of the Harvest in farmland and Mother of Orchards in the hills.
Example Pantheon in Five Minutes
Here is a quick way to use the tool. Set the sound to Mighty and generate a god of war, a goddess of the harvest and a neutral keeper of the last gate. Switch to Lyrical for a goddess of love and a god of the sea who came from a neighboring people. Now write one sentence about each: who their parents were, what they want, and which mortal festival honors them. In a few minutes you have five deities, two cultures, a family tree and at least one feud, which is plenty for a campaign or the opening chapters of a novel.
A Note on Real Religions
The names in this generator are invented, so they do not borrow from gods that people worship today. That makes them safe to use for villains, comic characters and fictional faiths without treating anyone's beliefs as props. Because the names are random, a few may resemble real or historical names by chance. If a name you like matches a figure from a living tradition, choose another one. Writing your own pantheon from scratch also gives you complete creative freedom over its myths.
Frequently asked questions
How do I name a fantasy god?
Choose the god's domain first, such as the sea or the forge, then pick a sound that fits the culture that worships it. Add a title like Lord of the Tides so readers learn the god's role from the name.
Are these names from real mythology?
No. Every name is invented by joining syllables, so the generator does not use gods from real religions. A few combinations may resemble real names by chance, so search a name before you publish.
Can I generate goddess names only?
Yes. Choose Goddess to get feminine names and titles such as Queen of Dawn or Lady of Visions. Choose Neutral for deities with titles such as Keeper, Spirit or Voice.
What domains can a god have?
The generator offers 14 domains: sky and storms, sea, sun, moon, harvest, war, love, wisdom, death, fire and the forge, trickery, nature and the hunt, time and fate, and dreams.
How many deity names can the generator make?
It can make 1,096,200 names across 14 domains, three sound styles and three forms. A single lyrical storm goddess alone has 8,700 combinations of name and title.
Can I use these god names in my game or book?
Yes. The names are invented and free to use in tabletop campaigns, video games, novels and other creative projects. Pair each one with its symbol to make temples and holy items easy to recognize.
