How to Use the Album Name Generator

How to use the album name generator: choose a genre, add a word, then copy titles and track ideas
Numbered steps on the Album Name Generator. Follow them in order.
    1. Choose a genre such as rock, indie, hip-hop or metal.
    2. Optionally add a word, place or lyric to every title.
    3. Keep the track list on to get eight song ideas.
    4. Read the top title and its track list, then copy or star it.

Choose a genre, or keep Any genre for a mixed list, and press Generate. The first idea appears as the top pick and the rest are listed below, each labeled with the genre it came from. With the track list box ticked, the top pick also gets eight song title ideas in the same mood, which is handy for a demo, a placeholder tracklist or a creative warm-up.

To tie titles to your record, type a word in the optional box: a place, a lyric, a nickname or a theme. Every suggestion will include it, such as Harbor of the Long Road or Wandering Harbor. Click a title to copy it, or tap the star to save favorites while your band votes.

How the Album Titles Are Built

Each genre has its own hand-picked words: 12 adjectives, 16 nouns, 10 action words ending in -ing, and 10 places or phrases. Metal leans on iron, thrones and frozen ruins, indie on cassettes, moths and small towns, and R&B on velvet, candles and slow dances. The words are combined with five title patterns that appear again and again on real records.

    titles per genre = A × N + V × N + N × P + P + N × (N − 1)
    = 12 × 16 + 10 × 16 + 16 × 10 + 10 + 16 × 15 = 762

Across all ten genres there are 7,620 possible album titles. With your own word, four patterns are used instead, giving 48 titles per genre and 480 in total.

How to Pick the Right Album Title

    • Let it describe the whole record. A great album title captures the mood or story that links the songs, not just the best single.
    • Borrow from your lyrics. Many albums take their name from a line in one of the songs. Generate a list, then look for a word that echoes your writing.
    • Picture the cover. Titles with strong images, like Paper Lighthouses or Iron Furnaces, are easier for an artist or designer to illustrate.
    • Keep it searchable. A short, common phrase can be hard to find on streaming services. An unusual pairing helps fans find you.
    • Check that it is free. Search streaming platforms for the exact title in your genre. Titles are not usually trademarked, but you do not want to be confused with a well-known record.

    How Genre Shapes a Title

Album titles follow the conventions of their genre almost as closely as the music does. Country records often name a place or a way of life, so the country lists include gravel roads, front porches and county lines. Hip-hop titles lean on ambition and identity, with crowns, blueprints and empires. Electronic titles borrow the language of machines and space, while folk titles feel handmade and seasonal. If you play between genres, generate lists in both and mix a word from each.

    Album, EP or Mixtape?

The same title ideas work for any release. An album is usually a longer collection, an EP is shorter, often four to six songs, and a mixtape or beat tape can be more informal. For a short release, a simple two-word title often feels right. For a concept album, the "of" and "Songs from" patterns suggest a place or a story, which can guide the order of your track list.

    Using the Track List Ideas

The eight track titles come from the same genre lists as the top pick, so they share its mood. Use them as working titles while you record, as prompts for new songs, or as a checklist of themes to cover. Writers often find that a random title like Folding Kites or Iron Hammers suggests a first line, a melody or a story. Press Generate again for a new album and a new track list.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I name my album?

Look for a phrase that captures the mood or story of the whole record. Generate titles in your genre, compare them with your lyrics and cover ideas, and pick one that feels right and is easy to search.

Can I put my own word in the album title?

Yes. Type a word, place or lyric in the optional box and every title will include it, for example Wandering Harbor or Harbor of the Long Road. Up to 24 characters are allowed.

Does the generator make song titles too?

Yes. With the track list option ticked, the top pick comes with eight song title ideas from the same genre. Use them as working titles or as prompts for writing new songs.

Can I use these titles for an EP or mixtape?

Yes. The ideas work for albums, EPs, mixtapes, beat tapes and playlists. Short two-word titles suit EPs, and the place-based patterns suit concept albums that tell a story.

    Are album titles copyrighted?

Short titles are generally not protected by copyright, so different records can share a title. Search streaming services anyway so your release is not confused with a well-known album in your genre.

How many album names can the generator make?

It can make 762 titles per genre and 7,620 across all ten genres. With your own word, there are 48 titles per genre, all built around the word you type.
