How to Use the Age Calculator

- Enter your date of birth.
- Leave today's date, or pick another date to find the age on that day.
- Read your exact age, then total months, weeks, days and your next birthday below.
Enter a date of birth in the first field. The age on this date field starts at today, so the age calculator shows your exact age in years, months and days without any extra clicks.
To find an age on another day, change the second date to any past or future date. The result updates instantly, which makes it easy to check a deadline, an anniversary or a planned retirement.
Below the headline figure you get total months, total weeks and total days, the weekday you were born on, and a countdown to your next birthday. It also works well as a birthday age calculator.
How Age Is Calculated
The calculator counts full years first, then whole months since your last birthday, then the remaining days. This chronological age method matches most official forms, so you only gain a year on the birthday itself.
- Subtract the birth year from the year of the second date.
- If the birthday has not arrived yet that year, subtract one.
- Count the whole months since the last birthday.
- Count the leftover days, borrowing from the previous month when needed.
Borrowing matters because calendar months have different lengths. When the day of the second date is smaller than the birth day, the method borrows the length of the previous month, like borrowing in long subtraction.
Some tools divide total days by 365.25 or treat every month as 30 days. That shortcut drifts by about a day near month ends, so results can differ from sites that count real calendar months.
Worked Example: Born 15 June 1994
Here is a worked example using real dates. Someone born on 15 June 1994 and checking on 30 September 2026 had their last birthday on 15 June 2026, which gives 32 full years of age.
From 15 June to 15 September is three whole months, and from 15 September to 30 September is 15 days. The exact age is 32 years, 3 months and 15 days, or 387 total months.
| Measure | Result for 15 June 1994 to 30 September 2026 |
|---|---|
| Age | 32 years, 3 months, 15 days |
| Total months | 387 |
| Total weeks | 1,685 weeks exactly |
| Total days | 11,795 |
| Born on a | Wednesday |
| Next birthday | 258 days away, on a Tuesday |
By then the same person has lived 11,795 days, which is exactly 1,685 weeks and about 283,080 hours since birth. They were born on a Wednesday, and their next birthday will fall on a Tuesday.
Month Ends and Leap Year Birthdays
Days per month run from 28 to 31, so month-end birthdays need a rule. If you were born on 31 January, the calculator treats the last day of a shorter month as your monthly anniversary.
Someone born on 29 February only sees their real date in a leap year. In a common year the calculator counts 28 February as the actual birthday, while some legal systems use 1 March instead.
Under the Gregorian calendar, a year divisible by four is a leap year, except century years not divisible by 400. Researchers at the National Research Council Canada explain the rule and its history in detail.
Finding an Age on a Past or Future Date
The second field answers questions such as how old was I when I graduated, or how old will I be at a wedding next summer. Enter the event as the second date to find out.
For a past date, the calculator returns the age that person had reached on that day. For a future date, it projects the age forward, which helps with retirement planning, milestone parties and eligibility cut-offs.
The only real rule: the date of birth must come before the second date. If it does not, the calculator shows a message instead of a negative age, so you can correct the entry quickly.
Days Lived and Your Next Birthday
Total days lived counts every day between the two dates without including the end date. Total weeks shows full weeks plus leftover days, and the hours figure multiplies the day count by 24 for fun.
The next birthday line counts down the days remaining and names the weekday it falls on. The turning figure tells you which age you will reach, so you can plan a milestone celebration well ahead.
When the second date is your birthday, the countdown reads Today and the note wishes you a happy birthday. For 29 February birthdays in a common year, the countdown targets 28 February instead of March.
Completed Age, Running Age and East Asian Age
The calculator uses the Western system, where your completed age is the number of full years you have lived. A baby is zero until the first birthday, and a person stays 31 until turning 32.
Running age describes the year of life you are currently in, which is always one higher than completed age. Some surveys, forms and religious calendars use it, so read the question carefully before you answer.
Traditional East Asian age counts a newborn as one and adds a year at Lunar New Year rather than on the birthday. That can make someone one or two years older than their Western age.
When You Need an Exact Age
Exact ages decide eligibility for school entry, sports leagues, driving licenses, voting, retirement benefits and senior discounts. Government forms, insurance and pension applications very often ask for age on a precise date rather than today.
Doctors track a child's age in months until about two years old, and the total months figure gives you that directly. Child care programs, vaccine schedules and development checks all rely on age in months.
To calculate age in a spreadsheet, DATEDIF with the Y unit returns full years. Enter dates in ISO 8601 form, YYYY-MM-DD, as recommended by the ISO date format standard, to avoid ambiguous regional date formats.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate my exact age?
Count the full years since your birth date, then the whole months since your last birthday, then the remaining days. Enter your date of birth above and the calculator does all three steps instantly.
How old am I if I was born in 2000?
It depends on your birthday. On 30 September 2026 you are 26 if your birthday has already passed this year, or 25 if it has not. Enter your full date of birth for the exact answer.
How is age calculated for someone born on 29 February?
In common years the birthday is usually counted on 28 February, and the calculator uses that date for the countdown. Some jurisdictions treat 1 March as the legal birthday, so check local rules for official documents.
Can I find my age on a specific date?
Yes. Change the age on this date field to any past or future date. The calculator shows the age reached on that day in years, months and days, plus total days and weeks.
Why does my age differ from another website?
Some sites divide days by 365.25 or treat every month as 30 days. This calculator counts real calendar months and borrows from the previous month, so it can differ by a day near month ends.
How many days old am I?
Enter your date of birth and leave the second date as today. The total days figure counts every day since birth, excluding today, and total weeks shows the same span in full weeks plus leftover days.
