How to Use the CRS Score Calculator

How to use the CRS score calculator: enter age, education, language test and work experience to get your Express Entry score
Numbered steps on the CRS Score Calculator. Follow them in order.
  1. Enter your age on the day you plan to submit your Express Entry profile.
  2. Pick your highest completed education credential.
  3. Choose your English or French test; the scores convert to CLB levels automatically.
  4. Select your years of skilled work in Canada, then your work abroad.
  5. Read your CRS score out of 1,200 with the core, spouse, transferability and bonus split.

Start with your marital status. If your spouse or common-law partner is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, or is not coming with you, choose single, because you then receive the the higher core points.

Enter your age, education and work history, then pick a language test and type your four band scores. The calculator converts them to CLB or NCLC levels and shows the resulting levels under each test.

Your total and the breakdown table update as you type. Use it as a Canada PR points calculator for planning or as an Express Entry calculator to see which change would add the most points.

What the Comprehensive Ranking System Is

The Comprehensive Ranking System is the points grid IRCC uses to rank every candidate in the Express Entry pool. Candidates with the highest scores in each round receive an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence.

Express Entry manages three federal programs: the Federal Skilled Worker program, the Canadian Experience Class and the Federal Skilled Trades program. You must first qualify for at least one before your CRS score really matters.

The Federal Skilled Worker program also has its own 67 point eligibility grid, a completely separate test. Passing that grid gets you into the pool, and the CRS score then decides your place in line.

How the CRS Score Is Calculated

The CRS adds four sections for a maximum of 1,200 points. Core human capital covers age points, education, languages and Canadian work, worth up to 500 for a single applicant or 460 with a spouse.

CRS = A core human capital (max 500 single / 460 with spouse)
  + B spouse factors (max 40)
  + C skill transferability (max 100)
  + D additional points (max 600)
Maximum total = 1,200

Spouse factors add up to 40 points for your partner's education, language and Canadian work. Skill transferability rewards combinations, such as strong language plus a degree, and is strictly capped at 100 points in total.

Additional points cover a provincial nomination, French skills, Canadian study and a sibling in Canada, up to 600. Age points peak between 20 and 29 and fall each year after that, reaching zero at 45.

Worked CRS Score Example

Take a single 29-year-old with a bachelor's degree and IELTS scores of 7 speaking, 8 listening, 7 reading and 7 writing. These convert to CLB 9 in all four abilities, which unlocks top transferability points.

The candidate also has one year of Canadian work experience and three years of foreign work experience. The core points total 394, and skill transferability adds 88 points for a total CRS score of 482.

Adding a French test at NCLC 7 in every ability lifts the same profile to 544. That comes from 12 second language points plus the 50 point French bonus, because English is above CLB 5.

IELTS, CELPIP, PTE and TEF to CLB Conversion

Every English result is converted to a Canadian Language Benchmark level, and French results use the matching French NCLC scale. The calculator accepts IELTS General Training, CELPIP-General, PTE Core, TEF Canada and TCF Canada scores.

CELPIP-General levels match CLB levels one for one, so a CELPIP 9 counts as CLB 9. IELTS needs different minimums for each ability, as the table shows, and listening usually needs the highest band score.

65.55.55.05.5

A second official language is optional. With English first, a French result counts as your second, and the reverse applies. It adds up to 24 points for a single applicant, or 22 with a spouse.

Job Offer Points Were Removed in 2025

Since March 25, 2025, IRCC no longer awards any CRS points for arranged employment. The 50 or 200 points that once came with a valid job offer, including offers backed by an LMIA, are gone.

The change applied to candidates already in the pool as well as new profiles. Some older calculators still add job offer points, so their final totals can easily be too high by up to 200.

A job offer can still help with eligibility under the Federal Skilled Worker grid or with a provincial nomination. A nomination adds 600 points, which is by far the largest single boost in the system.

Cut-Off Scores and Category-Based Draws

There is no fixed passing score. IRCC holds rounds of invitations and sets a cut-off score for each one, inviting everyone above it. The number changes from round to round with the pool and targets.

General draws invite candidates from all programs and usually need the very highest scores. Category-based draws target groups such as French-language proficiency or specific occupations, and their cut-offs are often much lower than general rounds.

Program-specific draws, for example for the Canadian Experience Class or provincial nominees, follow their own cut-offs. Always compare your estimate with recent rounds on the official IRCC website rather than with figures quoted elsewhere online.

Ways to Raise Your CRS Score

Language usually gives the fastest gains. A retake that moves you from CLB 8 to CLB 9 in all four abilities adds core points and can double several skill transferability scores for education and work.

Learning French adds a French bonus of 25 or 50 points plus second language points. Canadian education adds 15 or 30 points, and a sibling in Canada who is a citizen or resident adds 15.

A trade certificate combined with CLB 5 or higher earns transferability points. Only paid, skilled work in TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3 counts, and a spouse can raise their own language score as well.

Limits of This Estimate

This tool follows the IRCC CRS criteria. The estimate assumes your credentials count exactly as you entered them, which for foreign study means holding a valid educational credential assessment from an organization designated by IRCC.

Language results must be less than two years old when you create your profile and when you apply. Conversions follow the IRCC language test equivalency tables, which IRCC can update at any time without notice.

The result is an estimate for planning only. Your official score is the one shown in your Express Entry profile, so check it there before paying for tests, applications or advice based on this number.

Frequently asked questions

How is the CRS score calculated?

IRCC adds core human capital points for age, education, language and Canadian work, spouse factors, skill transferability points capped at 100, and additional points such as a provincial nomination. The maximum possible score is 1,200.

Do I still get CRS points for a job offer?

No. IRCC removed arranged employment points on March 25, 2025 for every candidate in the Express Entry pool, including offers supported by an LMIA. A job offer can still help with a provincial nomination.

What IELTS score do I need for CLB 9?

On IELTS General Training you need at least 7.0 in speaking, 8.0 in listening, 7.0 in reading and 7.0 in writing. Every ability must reach its own minimum to count as CLB 9.

How many points is a provincial nomination worth?

A provincial or territorial nomination through an Express Entry linked stream adds 600 points. Because 600 is more than many profiles score in total, a nomination almost always leads to an Invitation to Apply in the next draw.

Should I include my spouse in the CRS calculation?

Only if your spouse or common-law partner is coming with you and is not a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. Otherwise you are scored as single, which gives higher core points for age, education and language.

What is a good CRS score in 2026?

It depends on the draw type. General draws usually need a much higher score than category-based draws for French speakers or specific occupations. Compare your estimate with recent rounds of invitations on the IRCC website.
