How to use the small caps generator

- Type or paste your text. Lowercase letters become small capitals.
- Press Copy next to a style and paste it into your bio, post or name.
- Building a website? Copy the CSS font-variant code instead for real, searchable small caps.
- Compare small caps, all small caps and capital-first styles in the results.
Type or paste your text. Three styles appear: Small caps keeps your capital letters full size and turns lowercase letters into small capitals, All small caps converts every letter to the same small height, and Small caps, capital first letters starts each word with a full capital like a book heading. Press Copy and paste the result anywhere. If you are building a web page, copy the CSS line instead.
What are small caps?
Small capitals are capital letter shapes drawn at about the height of a lowercase x. Typographers use them for acronyms in running text, for the first words of a chapter, and for headings that need emphasis without shouting. In Unicode, most small capital letters were added for the International Phonetic Alphabet, where ʀ and ɢ stand for specific speech sounds, and for Uralic phonetic notation.
f → ꜰ LATIN LETTER SMALL CAPITAL F (U+A730), s → ꜱ (U+A731)
q → ǫ (U+01EB, look-alike) x → x (no small capital x exists)
Example
"The Quick Brown Fox" in the mixed style keeps T, Q, B and F as full capitals and converts the rest: Tʜᴇ Qᴜɪᴄᴋ Bʀᴏᴡɴ Fᴏx. Notice that the x in Fox stays an ordinary x, because Unicode has no small capital x. In the all small caps style the same phrase becomes ᴛʜᴇ ǫᴜɪᴄᴋ ʙʀᴏᴡɴ ꜰᴏx.
Small caps character map
| Letters | Small caps | Unicode block |
|---|---|---|
| a c d e j k m o p t u v w z | ᴀ ᴄ ᴅ ᴇ ᴊ ᴋ ᴍ ᴏ ᴘ ᴛ ᴜ ᴠ ᴡ ᴢ | Phonetic Extensions (U+1D00 to U+1D7F) |
| b g h i l n r y | ʙ ɢ ʜ ɪ ʟ ɴ ʀ ʏ | IPA Extensions (U+0250 to U+02AF) |
| f s | ꜰ ꜱ | Latin Extended-D |
| q | ǫ | Look-alike from Latin Extended-B. The true small capital Q (U+A7AF) is missing from most phone fonts. |
| x | x | No small capital x in Unicode |
Because the letters come from three different blocks, a few of them may look slightly taller or bolder than the others in some fonts.
Real small caps on websites
When you control the styling, use CSS rather than Unicode. The property font-variant-caps: small-caps (or the shorthand font-variant: small-caps) tells the browser to use the font's own small capitals, or to synthesize them if the font has none. The text stays normal letters underneath, so search engines index it, screen readers pronounce it, and copy and paste gives ordinary text. Fonts with true small caps, such as many book typefaces, give the best result.
Where these characters work
Because the result is plain Unicode text, it pastes into most places that accept emoji. In practice it usually works in:
- Instagram: bio, display name, captions and comments. Usernames only allow basic letters, numbers, periods and underscores.
- TikTok: profile bio, display name, captions and comments.
- Discord: messages, nicknames, channel topics and server descriptions.
- X, Facebook, YouTube and WhatsApp: posts, bios and messages.
Apps can change what they accept at any time, and some strip or replace unusual characters in names. Older phones and computers may show empty boxes when a font on the device does not include a symbol, so preview your text on a second device before using it somewhere important.
Accessibility and search caveats
Screen readers do not treat these symbols as ordinary letters. Depending on the reader and platform, a styled word may be read out one character at a time with names such as "mathematical bold capital H", or skipped completely. People who rely on assistive technology can miss your message entirely.
- Use styled text for short decorative accents, not for whole posts, names people need to find or important details like dates, prices and links.
- Do not style hashtags or keywords. Search features match normal letters, so styled words are usually not found in search.
- Where the platform offers real formatting, such as bold in Discord Markdown or in a document editor, use that instead because it stays accessible.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make small caps text?
Type your text above and copy one of the three small caps styles. Lowercase letters are replaced by Unicode small capital letters that paste anywhere.
Why does the x not change?
Unicode does not contain a small capital x, so the generator keeps the normal x, which has a similar height and shape.
What is the difference between small caps and lowercase?
Small caps use the shapes of capital letters at roughly lowercase height. Lowercase letters have their own shapes with ascenders and descenders.
How do I use small caps in CSS?
Add font-variant-caps: small-caps; to the element. The browser shows small capitals while the underlying text stays normal, which is better for search and accessibility.
How do I get small caps in Word or Google Docs?
In Word, select the text, open the Font dialog and tick Small caps, or press Ctrl+Shift+K. Google Docs has no built-in option, so Unicode small caps from this tool are a practical alternative.
