How to Use the Alien Text Generator

How to use the alien text generator: type a message, copy an alien alphabet, or paste alien text to decode
Numbered steps on the Alien Text Generator. Follow them in order.
  1. Type a message, or paste alien text to decode it.
  2. Paste alien text and the decoder card shows it in English.
  3. Copy the Standard Galactic Alphabet or another alien style.
  4. Paste your alien message into a game, chat or story.

Type a message in English. Five alien alphabets update as you type, from the Standard Galactic Alphabet to glyphs borrowed from real writing systems. Press Copy on the one you like and paste it into a game, a chat, a sci-fi story or a party invitation. To read alien text, paste it into the same box: the Decoded to English card at the top translates every symbol it recognizes back into letters and counts how many it found.

The Standard Galactic Alphabet

The Standard Galactic Alphabet was created for the Commander Keen computer games in the early 1990s, and it reached millions more players as the script on the Minecraft enchanting table. It is a simple substitution cipher: every letter of the English alphabet has one symbol, so any English word can be written in it and read back again. There is no official Unicode block for it, so this generator uses the common set of look-alike Unicode characters that fans use to type it.

How the Alien Alphabets Work

Each style is a substitution table with 26 entries. Uppercase and lowercase letters share one symbol, because none of these scripts has capital letters. The decoder reverses the tables: it looks for multi-character symbols first, such as !¡ for p, then single symbols, and leaves anything it does not know untouched.

alien text = table[letter] for each letter A to Z    decoded letter = table⁻¹[symbol]

Worked Example

In the Galactic alphabet, "Take me to your leader" becomes ℸ̣ᔑꖌᒷ ᒲᒷ ℸ̣𝙹 ||𝙹⚍∷ ꖎᒷᔑ↸ᒷ∷. T becomes ℸ̣, a becomes ᔑ, k becomes ꖌ and e becomes ᒷ. In the Yi glyph style the same message is ꓄ꍏꀘꍟ ꂵꍟ ꓄ꂦ ꌩꂦꀎꋪ ꒒ꍟꍏꀸꍟꋪ. Pasting either line back into the box returns "take me to your leader" in lowercase, because the alien alphabets have no capitals.

Where the Other Alien Symbols Come From

StyleSampleReal script behind it
Alien glyphsꍏ꒒ꀤꍟꈤYi syllables, used to write the Nuosu language in China
Alien runesልረጎቿክEthiopic, used for Amharic and Tigrinya
Alien syllabicsᗩᒪIEᑎCanadian Aboriginal Syllabics, used for Cree and Inuktitut
Alien script mixคɭเєภThai, Hebrew, Cyrillic and other letters chosen for shape

These characters belong to living writing systems used by millions of people. Here they are picked only because their shapes resemble Latin letters, so the "alien" text means nothing in those languages. Use the styles for fun and fiction, not to imitate or mock the real scripts.

Ideas for Alien Text

  • Secret messages for friends, scavenger hunts and escape room clues that players decode here.
  • Signs, labels and screen text for sci-fi stories, tabletop games and film props.
  • Minecraft builds and server names written in the enchanting table alphabet.
  • Space-themed birthday invitations with the guest's name in alien glyphs.

Sending Secret Messages

Alien alphabets make good playful codes. Write a clue in the Galactic alphabet, send it to a friend and ask them to decode it with this page or by reading the table above. Remember that a substitution cipher is a puzzle, not encryption: anyone who knows the alphabet can read it in seconds, so never use it for passwords or private information.

Limits

Only the letters A to Z are converted, so digits and punctuation stay readable. Some symbols, especially the Galactic letters made of two characters, can look slightly different between fonts. Screen readers announce each symbol by its Unicode name, so alien text is not accessible as a message. The decoder only understands the five alphabets on this page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Standard Galactic Alphabet?

It is a fictional alphabet first used in the Commander Keen games and later on the Minecraft enchanting table. Each English letter has its own symbol, so it works as a simple substitution code that anyone can write and read.

Can I translate alien text back into English?

Yes. Paste alien text made with any of the five alphabets into the box, and the Decoded to English card shows the letters. Symbols the decoder does not recognize are left exactly as they are.

Is this the Minecraft enchanting table language?

The Galactic alphabet card uses the same letter shapes as the enchanting table, typed with Unicode look-alikes. In the game itself, the table shows random words, so most of them do not decode into meaningful English.

Why do the alien letters have no capitals?

Every alien alphabet here maps both the capital and the small form of a letter to the same symbol. The scripts these symbols come from do not use capital letters, so the decoder returns lowercase text.

Will alien text work in Discord and Instagram?

Yes. The symbols are standard Unicode characters, so they paste into messages, bios, captions and nicknames. A few apps filter unusual scripts in usernames, so test before you change your handle.

Are the alien symbols real languages?

Most come from real scripts such as Yi, Ethiopic and Canadian syllabics, chosen only for their shape. The resulting text has no meaning in those languages, so treat it as a game and avoid presenting it as a real language.
